I was out this week, and caught a few 12 inchers on Carey Specials. I got nothing on Hare's ears and Wine Woolies.
An interesting aside.. I just started tying flies, and today I caught my first fish on a fly I tied. Felt pretty damn good. Felt better when I let 'er go.
Good luck all.

Lafarge April 24

I always found small micro leech's black with red in them to work well. Just slowly kick along in the tube and slightly twitch the rod in an erratic manner.

There used to be an older white haired senior lady who would get them consistently on tiny spinners cast from shore over by the outlet river.

And of course all the guys on the west shore.

she also does well using a float.

i did really good on lafarge on friday with a black leech.when i swapped to a black chronnei i was nailing them one after another.
Re: Lafarge April 24

i was out on sunday with my dad and hit almost every fish on a black/red rib chronie. in the middle of the lake is where we had our most furious action. between us both probably hit 50 all released and were only landing 1 out of 5 usually   barbless hooks are great if your only C&R There was a guy in a canoe that told us the depth of lake which is about 35feet  this should mean for decent fishing even in the heat of summer, at least for us fly guys :peace:

   You're kidding, right.
Re: Lafarge April 24

nope not kidding, he said on the one end (opposite from where we were) that it has a big hole that drops to 35feet. where we were fishing it was 25feet deep  and we were only 50feet off shore casting into the middle of the lake because that the way the wind wanted to face us LOL but it didnt seem to matter where we landed that fly as we found the feeding column perfectly that day  and did i mention it was raining pretty good also while the bite was on the best O0

oh ya i forgot to mention this guy had a fish/depth finder with him and was actually a tad annoying cause if you talking to him once he would try talking to you every time he came by trolling  bragging about the fish he was catching LOL telling everyone the fly he had on and what depth the fish were cruising. we found them mostly in the 4-7 foot depth with our chronies. and no we dont have a depth finder so i cant say if he was right or not but then again why he b.s. when he was a wealth of knowledge.

HAHAHAHAH. HOOK. I fell your pain buddy. Is that the guy in the red canoe??? He just doesnt shut up does he? I see him every weekend out on the lake. He's told me the same story about his canoe the past 6 weekends at least. Nice guy though. I think he might be a little bit mentally handicapped, but good on him for getting out there and fishing.

Has he told you the story about the canoe, or the battery, or the green wooly bugger, or the 2 split shots yet???
Re: Lafarge April 24

Sorry HOOK, I meant, you're kidding that 35' depth on a tiny sea level lake would make for good fishing through the heat of the summer. 60' deep lakes at 1500 feet don't fish well in August.
Re: Lafarge April 24

well these pellet fed fish arent exactly geared to the same habits as interior fish :-\ i have caught lots on hot August days in Green Timbers and it maxes out around 15feet. and yes the guy has told me the stories about the wolly bugger, and the split shots. started talking about his battery on one of the passes but i was already starting to ignore him by then and burning my indicator into my retina's

Were you out last Sunday Cody?? my dad and i were in the Blue pontoons. you wont see us this weekend cause we are hitting the Vedder for some fly action after my dad picks his new spey combo up from Rick
Anyone tried Rice lake lately?
Any tips?
Re: Lafarge April 24

Glad to hear you hooked some fish on your own creations there Chris!
Re: Lafarge April 24

glad to hear its still fishing good. when i was there couple weeks back i hit a 4-5lber but lost it in the air :'(

if you see 2 guys in blue fishcats fishing close to each other anchored. come say HI names are James and Rob (me and my dad) unless the interior frees up a bit more over the next week or so we will probably be out on Sunday weekend after next
Thanks Pat! Yeah, it really makes a good thing better, catching 'em on your own stuff. See ya at the next FLY TYING Night! :drunk:

Hmm...I sense a beer theme......

I'm surprisingly comfortable with that....
Re: Lafarge April 24

The guy in the red canoe is to funny. He must of mentioned his double header about 20 times that day. Got them both in though he says on every pass. Hit all mine trolling a green damsel. :beerchug:
Re: Lafarge April 24

That guy is so nice and personable, but he does like to talk. Constantly. But hey, I'd rather be around friendly chatty people than quiet jerks any time.
Re: Lafarge April 24

ive been out there twice this week, but i havent seen that red canoe yet.thanks for the heads up. ;D
Re: Lafarge April 24

yes the guy in the canoe is nice but you can only hear the same thing so many times ya know  im sure he is only out on weekends.

hows the fishing been this week? i might have friday off and this is where i will be heading unless i can get work for the day
Re: Lafarge April 24

its been decent, but tons and tons of small fish :wallbash:
Re: Lafarge April 24

well they have done 4stockings and 3 of them were 250gram fish and 1 was 500gram fish. who cares if they are smaller because when you hit a bigger one its more fun then. if you getting to many small ones fishing chronies try going a couple feet deeper or try a different area of the lake :peace:
