Got lucky today on the Vedder and just as well because it was the last day (for me)of winter steel fishing.
A nice 12 lb chrome Doe. The weather was really weird, I had everything from cloudy to shower to rain then snow and finally sunshine. I am sure those of you that were there are aware of that anyway.
I know there has been some debate as to what causes those marks around the girth of steelhead. Well the ones on mine were definitely caused by the fish rolling, because I saw it happen. I got the fish to shore and it was in pristine condition and then it decided it wanted a last run for freedom.
It was when I got it to shore the second time that it decided to roll itself up in my line right in front of me and I saw the line cutting into the fish.

I caught the fish about 10am after a heavy downpour so the water had a bit of colour to it. I was pleasantly surprised to see how chrome it was.
Like you said mmmroe if it was dark I would have released it as well.

There was not very many people where I was fishing, "Didn't even get a sniff " were the comments I got from them. Mind you, "to be fishing in that weather ya gotta be crazy" my wife said. She just doesn't understand Steelhead fever. Besides the type of gear that we wear protects us from the elements, Isn't that right Folks.

I am going to eat that beauty on sunday night with all my fishing buddies.

Cheers and may your rod bend under the strain this weekend.
