Getting ready to move back to Canada after 10 years in the States. I have a Milner Kingfisher bushing reel so I'm set there. What float rods do pinners use for steelhead? I'm moving to Vernon in the New Year and my brother in law told me the Thompson is the closest steelhead river.

I'm also looking into spey fishing. What are good rods and reels?

Thanks

Greg

Welcome to the board and welcome back to the greatest province/Country in the world! First off, The Thompson river closes December 31, so I believe the closest river for you then would be the Chilliwack/Vedder. Have a look in the classifieds, I believe there are both spey and pin rods in the classifieds.

 Rick

Greg Welcome back to Canada, and welcome to BCFR. I am strictly a feather chucker, so I have no input into pin rods for you, but maybe I can point you to a few features on the forum that might help you. In the Classified section there is a subsection Gear reviews. If you search that area (or browse through, it's full of neat information) you will find things like:

There is a section on Spey fishing with this thread in it:

Hey Buckeye,

Most guys chuck their floats below 10.5-12 foot medium action rods up here. Long rods help to keep slack line under control. Sage 3106 and 3113 are both good bets.

As for speys I am no expert but an 8wt will probably be good for 80% of local situations in the fraser valley, but you may want a 14+ foot 9wt for the T as it is big water. I like Scott and Sage fly rods myself.

Tight lines,

Pat
