I got a daiwa Luna 300 baitcaster reel for christmas, It looks real good. Is this a good reel or Is there another baitcaster that is even better for around the same price that I should go get? I dont know to much about reels, so Im hoping for a little advice. thanks!

Well i dont fish a levelwind anymore but all the guys on here that do have been raving about the Luna. They all love it and say its the best reel out right now :thumbup: Enjoy it its top quality

Hey Steely. I have a Luna myself, and love it. Super smooth drag, and casts a mile. IMO, the only other reel that compares is the Calcutta. I had doubts when they first came out, after all, it was a Daiwa. After reading several reviews, and getting some info from a friend of mine who was the senior editor at a fishing magazine, I decided to try one out. That's all i've used since. Stick with the Luna, and i'm sure you will be more than impressed.

around the same price? Nope. It is a great reel for the price.

But if you are willing to pay more, a Shimano conquest will be $100 more and it is a better reel.

I personally have never fished with one, but I know that DMW has one or had one and I believe he really liked his. Maybe he will chime in and offer up his opinion.

My buddy picked one up this summer and let me try it out for half a day on the vedder, very smooth casting reel, feels very solid and precise, like everything is machined to very close specs. I would buy one in a heartbeat if I was looking for a new real in that upper price range. Unfortunately I have only tried out the calcutta for a couple of casts so can't really say how they compare though they of course have a good reputation for being top of the line. I think if you stick with the Diawa you won't regret it.

I love my Calcutta, but I've herd a lot of great reviews on the Luna. Both, if cleaned and lubed regularly, will last a long long time.
