I am getting a new fly rod soon and have a few questions. I have a 6 weight but after seeing how good of a fight some of the pinks put up on it I would like something bigger. This rod will be used for coho but obivously must be able to handle any chum or springs that take the fly. So I was wondering what you guy would recomend. I have been looking at 8 and 9 weight rods and was wondering your opinions on the rod weight and which make to go with. I have a fairly broad price range right now so tell me which ever rod you feel is best suited.

Thanks. ;)

Hey Hook Set

I would recommend an 8wt 10' rod. And I would recommend buying the best rod you can afford. Put a good quality reel on it and it will do you for any salmon fishing you want to try. As far as brands I would suggest you could look at Sage,Loop, St.croi, The higher end TFO are not bad. Depending on were you live you could go into one of the Michael and young stores and they will let you try casting various rods to see what you like.

I'm with Finder on this one. Check the warranty. Rods do break-you shouldn't lose one completely, just because the warranty is NFG.

Hey finder - What's up for Saturday???

I too look for warranty. I just broke my reddington RS2 and I just took it in and they sent out the piece with the numbers on it. The rest of the rod you get to keep. They are sending a completely new rod with sock and tube. I get to keep the old sock, tube and top half. The RS2 is now discontinued so I get the new RS3 and I now have a new top section so if I do break the top I have an extra until they replace it. So look for warranty. Oh and it only cost me $40 for shipping I believe sage is $65.
