they look hightech, but old school looks good too. And on the subject of nuckle busting, i dont think it matters whether there are 2 handles or 3, if the reel is spinning and u have ur fingers there, they're gonna get wacked.

what are they made of? aluminum or graphite?

They are made of aluminum. Do they click on the retrieve when engaged? My Silex didn't unlike some of my other reels. I dont like the clicking when reeling in. The Greys reel on ebay looks really nice $350, but only a 4 inch is available.

aluminum !! If a centerpin has the handles inset on the spool less likely to get your fingers smacked, look at the islanders there right on the edge of the spool making it realy easy to get nailed.... (you tried the islanders young gun you should allready know this)

Im pretty sure they click both ways... i was just playing with one yesterday and cant remember allready lol

The greys pin is very light in weight and is not really meant for heavy duty use.And again the handle are close by th rim=knuckle buster :wallbash:

hey freak its the same deal with my streamside. First fish on the pin, 25lb chrome spring! imagine what happened. :wallbash:
keep your finger out of the way... I hooked some big pigs on my islander and i have learnt to keep my fingers away from the handles when the fish runs, its just something you learn to deal with... from time to time i get my fingers caught in them but usually if its a huge fish and its running like crazy, I just palm the reel then its all good.

yup i never got knuckled on my Streamside because i already knew to get my fingers out of the way from years of fly fishing ;) and i also dont like the new Hardy's and was told by a guy at a store that they are not very good reels because of the plastic parts :wallbash: I do however love the old Hardy i just got, no chance to get knuckled with the inset handles ;D
