Hi guys,
I thought it was about time I became a member of this fantastic community! As a non-member I found my self reading the available info daily for the past year. I hope to add to this community and gain from the extremely knowledgeable members. I have been fishing for over 15 years both fly and gear. I enjoy tossing fly's to all species but have recently stumbled on some small local flows that are very difficult to toss flys due to the thick tree and brush cover. I found myself purchasing a center pin set up and have found a new passion for bait, spinners, and jigs. I look forward to exploring this community!

Thanks guys, what a great welcome!
I have had some time to look around the members area and I'm finding there is much more info to gain from this fantastic group. A few things about me... I currently live in Maple Ridge and spend too much time on or in the water. I grew up in Maple Ridge only a short walk from Kanaka, my brother and I chose to play in and around the river, to us it was much better then a play-ground or field. Over the past few years I have noticed a major decline in this system and just today I was at the fish fence and was disappointed in the numbers. I'm not sure this river will hold many fish in the next 15 years; development has greatly damaged this river. In my teens my family moved to Mission, just up the hill from Stave Lake. Lots of lakes to play on around there! School moved me to Burnaby and Van city but now I live only a short drive from the local flow and I can't get enough of it. This past weekend I taught a young man (13years old) how to effectively and ethically fish for salmon. My most proud fishing experience was this past weekend when he hooked and landed his first monster chum. While searching for Coho we were short floating a tiny jig (that he tied) and on his forth drift he nailed a monster. We couldn’t see the hook as the fish had such an aggressive bite. Wow, this young man is "hooked" on fishing. Now he's asking to learn how to cast flies! I believe we can change the future by educating especially at a young age. I'm very passionate towards fishing but more towards the enjoyment of the outdoors and respecting what's around us.
Thanks again for the welcome.
