Could some of you guys please recommend a good baitcasting combo that would do for Vedder steelhead as well as the larger Salmon species in our waters. I'm leaning towards a Calcutta 201te but am not sure what rod to accompany it? I know a sage would be nice but not quite in my budget at the moment :wallbash: Maybe a loomis GL3 but I'm not sure which would be the best model #

cheers :beerchug:

I* think a good all around reel would be the one size bigger than the 201 like the 301 .

Unfortunately Shimano don't do a left hand version of the 300 series, so that would put me into a 401 which may be a little overkill

I fish the calcutta TE401 and ut is a perfect all arounder that can land the big Thompson steelie or Vedder spring with lots of line to work with.
But for a lesser price you can hook yourself up with a Daiwa Luna. Which in my opinion is a better reel.Very, very, very smooth. Can never go back to shimano now. At first I treated myself to the 401 then the 201. Then switched over to the Luna and the rest is history!

whats your price range for a rod? i have 2 Berkeley specialist and they perform great for all species sensitive tip and good backbone i even landed a 60+ lb spring on it ;D i also have a Shimano Convergence for BBing only which is a med-heavy action but its a great stick so for smaller systems i would go with a straight medium action. but now i fish a TFO CP rod which is great for them all ;D biggest fish so far on it was my first actually 45lb white ;D
