Hi folks:

The Admins and Mods here at BCFR have decided to put on a little contest to celebrate the community that we have here. Here is how this will work: 1) Reply to this thread and Nominate another BCFR member who you feel has helped you in some special way. 2) Tell us why you have nominated this person by writing a concise, well-written story. 3) Presentation of the story, including writing style, photo illustration, humor, and the act of kindness itself, will all go towards the determination of the winner.

Rules of Eligibility:

1) Any BCFR member is eligible to be nominated by any other member...obviously you can't nominate yourself and tell us a story of how you helped yourself. :D

2) Obviously Moderators and Administrators of this site are not eligible for nomination...we're judging the entries.

3) In keeping with the family friendly nature of this site, as reflected by the comprehensive new rules agreement, absolutely no vulgar material allowed. Also be aware of copyright infringement when materials are used for the article.

Contest is open from now until October 15. Winner to be declared and prize awarded soon after that.

Why are we doing this? Because...

1) We like to think that BCFR is somewhat of a resource to anglers, and one way of growing our sport is to "give back". "Giving back" may take the form of teaching a new angler new techniques and skills, and encouraging them to become ethical anglers who have a strong sense of stewardship for the resources that we all enjoy. It could also be as simple as helping a fellow member head in the right direction by offering them some genuine tips when they ask about an area or body of water, which you have fished extensively, that they would like to explore.

2) We think that this contest will contribute to the positive atmosphere here at BCFR. Just think of how the person you nominate will feel when they read about how they helped you.

3) There have been a rash of recent incidents here in BCFR that have required the moderating team to delete posts or ban members. We don't want the membership to feel that the moderating team only censors posts or bans members. We do this because we love "hanging out" with fellow anglers who share a common passion of fishing in British Columbia...and we want to "give back" a little token of this appreciation.

So what can be won?

Nothing all that fancy...it's a brand new flyreel patterned after the Princess. It's well built, made in Japan, and would make a nice backup to someone who is already an avid flyfisher with lots of premium equipment, or a very nice starter reel for someone just thinking about getting into chucking flies. Attached are a couple of photos of the reel. Winner will PM me with a mailing address and the reel will be sent via Canada Post.

Good luck...and I hope that there is some good participation! We look forward to reading some of these stories...

4 in the morning getting in your car
dark subtle sky i can see star

from the spots you have shown and the lakes we have drifted
the cry "fish on" and our spirits are lifted

This ones for you Ratherbefishin, who showed me the fly
floating, sinking, wet and dry

From springs on the Vedder to Bow's on the lake
to fish without you would be a mistake

Walking the Skagit or floating on Gwen
i cant wait until we can go fishing again......

I would like to nominate Ratherbefishing, if i never met him i highly doubt i would have done half of the fishing i have over the past year or have even 1% of the knowlage i feel i have gained in that time.
Thanks man, your a pleasure to fish with.

What...no more takers...? Common guys...that's a sweet little reel there, and it sets a precedent for future contests with a variety of prizes... Maybe we'll even get sponsors for future contests...Stone generously put up a nice little prize for this one, so give it a rip, let's see some posts here...!

Ok, well I'll nominate HOOK.

I'm basing my nomination on the feeling I get from his posts. He is a positive contributor to the site and I haven't seen him write anything to hurt anybody. He puts his two bits in when he can and also is willing to ask for advice. Plus didn't he just take some dude out for his first Vedder spring? Perhaps that was an election ploy??

Either way, he's a good guy to have on the site. Let's see what others have to say!

I would like to nominate fishortho - for all his help he has given us from sturgeon fishing to finding worms
even how to release a fish ( At the fish out - remember Ortho - lol) He has spent A LOT of time writing
me back on methods and even a few spots for us to try. We have become alot better sturgeon fishers
because of him! Ortho is an experienced fishermen that has shared his time and knowledge with us, he has
a great sense of humor and is a really genuine and caring guy -
On one of the threads he noticed that South Texas Salt had not been heard from in a while and Ortho
knew and was worried that he had been effected by the Hurricane - he remembered that Salt was heading to Oregon
in mid Sept. to fish with Ron Smith Outfitting on the Rogue River. So he went as far as contacting Ron to make sure Salt was
ok.
He also spends time on his weekends doing charities like the toy run for kids!
I would have nominated Ortho earlier but unfortunately I definitely do not have the writing ability that say Rib has! ;)
Anyways - Ortho - you deserve this! :drunk:

It took me a little while to find this but this post from Fishhog it really helped me when my father past. I have it hanging in my office and on my desk at home. I tell ya it sure gets me through my bad days.

Salmonator. My prayers are with you and your family in your time of grief.

I pray that I may live to fish.......
Until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord's great landing net
And peacefully asleep
That in His mercy I be judged
Big enough to keep.

He has contributed over 2740 posts
He entertains us with some of his suggestions of how to deal with issues
He has been more than willing to pick up other fishers to take them to the river
He is a die hard fisherman working the night shift and still getting to the river by 5.30am

I nominate EVERYDAY

He is always online informing all the far away people river conditions and river reports.. A respectfull young kid that likes to help people.. If it wasnt for him allot of poeple would be waisting there gas and time doing the long trips to a non fishable river !!!

Water Conditions is an important thing to know when it comes to catching fish as for clarity, depth and general chilliwack weather

As I float thru Cyberspace and the boards I have seen ...

Anyways, I have always foudn that one particular user is always pleasant, and always is a wealth of useful information (unlike myself). If I had to vote just once in my life, it would be a worthwhile vote...

This being said. I vote for Hook :)

I've not been around here all that long, but the guy who impresses me the most with his detailed posts is Fishortho. Although I've never met the fellow, he seems to have experienced knowledge instead of 50/50 knowledge like some that post often. What really struck me, as Fishnfvr touched upon, was his genuine concerned effort to track down South Texas Salt after the path of destruction that just happened on the Gulf Coast. That is truly outstanding in my books!
My vote is for Fishortho who should be the runaway winner hands down!!

Thanks for your posts guys but I just want to remind you all this isn't a popularity contest or a vote for person that posts the most, please read the original thead again!!!
