Hey everyone,

Spent two weeks in May up island doing some lake fishing and everyone was getting skunked. Seems that the fish are still on the bottom and not rising yet to feed. Tried different tactics - fly fishing with a leech pattern, trolling a croc, gang trolling with a worm, fishing near the mouths of rivers, fishing deep, all to no avail. The same story went for everyone else we saw too. It was an awfully cold spring though (up until now) so that could be the reason why things were late. But I wonder if climate change is making a difference....

How far up north were you? I don't think climate change is the cause for your skunking. It could just be that the lakes hadn't turned yet, due to a late ice-off.

Yes, everything was a little late this year. I fish around Campbell River. The long weekend in May was slow, but I think they were all gorged on the ant hatch.

Got a few with the gang troll and worm, but the hits were very tentative.

Was out on Upper Campbell last weekend and got five from shore in about an hour. Lots more activity now the snow is melting and the lakes are coming up.
