December & January Courses, Dates, & Availabilities

With Christmas just around the corner there is no better gift to give than the gift of fishing. As they say, “buy a man/women a fish feed him/her for a day, teach a man/women how to fish and feed him/her for a lifetime”. You can sign up your loved one for one of our unique fishing courses or simply buy them a gift card for the amount of the course so they can pick their preferred course.

For the months of December and January our specialized courses are focussed on steelhead. As well, due to popular demand Pacific Angler has opened up another date for Fly Fishing Egg Patterns.

INTRUDER NIGHT WITH DIMITRI – 2 Spots Available

The Original Intruder Fly Tying Demo Night is back! Often imitated but never duplicated, our original intruder fly tying course is back once again. Dimitri will be demonstrating the techniques he uses to tie this effective pattern. Dimtri will show you how to use Rhea, Ostrich, Amherst, Polar Bear, and the latest materials to make intruders that no steelhead or salmon can resist. This is a step-by-step course. A material list will be included. Each student is entitled to a 10% discount for the duration of the course.

STEELHEAD FLOAT FISHING – 5 Spots Available



In this 2 part course you will learn advanced float fishing techniques used to catch steelhead in all water types and conditions. This course includes a 3hr evening seminar and a fully guided day on the river putting your new steelhead knowledge into practice.

FLY FISHING EGG PATTERNS – 4 New Spots Available



Join Pacific Angler and learn the secrets to one of the most productive presentations in the BC fly fishermen’s arsenal, egg patterns. This deadly method can be used for different species of trout, char, and salmon. Let us teach you the techniques, key concepts, strategies, and gear that will give you a well-rounded foundation during the theory portion of the class. Then you will put those skills into practice during a fully guided day on the water.

STEELHEAD ON THE FLY – 3 Spots Available

Fishing for winter steelhead on the fly is arguably one of the most challenging fisheries in British Columbia. Join Pacific Angler and learn the secrets and “small things” that will increase your chances of success for winter steelhead. This course will have a strong focus on swinging intruder style flies using heavy sink tips and Skagit systems and is designed for the fishermen ready to take that next step!

MASTERING LOCAL SALTWATER SALMON FISHING – 4 Spots Available



Over 50 million salmon migrate past Vancouver annually. Learn how to catch these fish with Pacific Angler. This course offers an in-depth look at the local saltwater scene. We cover the local saltwater salmon fishing for the entire year, showing you the how, when, and where. The course includes a 3hr evening seminar and a fully guided day on the water in our 27ft Grady White.

INTRODUCTION TO FLY FISHING – 6 Spots Available

This course is designed to give the new fly fisher the basic knowledge, casting skills and fly fishing strategies to effectively fish our local waters. This course is comprised of two sessions: a 3hr evening seminar and a 3hr casting session.

INTRODUCTION TO FLY TYING – 6 Spots Available

This course is for the beginner fly tier or for those who have never tried fly tying. We will show you the fundamental skills needed to tie the successful flies used here in BC for trout, salmon, and steelhead. This course consists of 3 sessions of 3 hours each spread over one month. Vises are supplied, materials are not supplied, and students will receive 10% off on material purchases.

Cost: $60.00 (before taxes)

TYING JIGS FOR STEELHEAD – 6 Spots Available

The use of Jigs for catching steelhead is not a new idea, but in the last few years we have seen a revolution on our local rivers. Fisherman using hand tied jigs are accounting for record numbers! Join us around the tying tables and learn how to tie jigs! If you have never thought of making your own lures don’t feel intimidated, Pacific Angler will help you with each step. For those who have lots of experience we will hone your skills and show you the tricks that make his jigs the choice of top rods across the lower mainland.
