when tying parachute patterns how long do you normally tie your posts?? nowhere in any pattern im tying does it say how long it should be. or do you just go by whatever length you feel is good enough for you to see the fly on the water?

i have tied some but left them fairly long for now but will be cutting them shorter if its too long, which it seems like  but that might just be because i have never tied them before and it just looks kinda weird to me

ok seeing as noone has answered i though i would post a pic of one with a cute back post. hopefully someone can tell me if the post is to short or to long.

this is a parachute Green Drake

be gentle with comments as this is my first time tying parachutes and i have only done half a dozen so far of this pattern before i do more other patterns  I think i did a pretty good job for not taking tying lessons. I did however look up how to wrap the hackle properly (online)

Looks just a touch long, HOOK...but otherwise that's a nice looking fly! When I tie parachutes, I use my thumbnail to push down on the hackles to make them lay flatter (horizontally) around the post.
