I recently went out and to my dismay, my pawl doesn't want to ren along the wormgear when I cast out, which equals messed up casting and retreving. It appears its slightly worn on one side, and I'm assuming thats the problem, but I'm not sure..

Aside from getting my reel to one of the repair guys in the Valley (hard to find time), does anyone know of a shop around surrey, langley, or greater vancouver that would have replacement pawls for sale?? Or whould anyone out there have spare parts for sale?? The reel is a 5500 C series, I believe

Thanks in advance,

Wookie

Maybe you shoulda oiled your reel Wookie ;D ;D I remeber you teling me that you don't and never have had problems ;D I guess you got snake-bitten lol  Are you sure it the pawl, cause it could be the actual worm gear as well, check to make sure it doesnt have sand or something stuck in one of the areas, or it could be worn. If you have the pawl stop at a certain spot and then back up or not even move at all it is prob the worm gea. Good luck on getting it fixed

I had the same problem
but it was not from the lack oiling my gear quite the opposite
I used to strip down my reels frequently to clean them
The level wind kept sticking or slipping
I later found out that i had lost the tiny copper washer that sits behing the pawl
not sure if there is a part #

i will have to go with russ at stryker too, great service and always has the parts. first time i ever used him he left the worm gear and pawl in his mail box, and trusted me to leave the money under his door mat. great guy to deal with.

hey Wookie next time we are out in the 'Wack we will pick up the parts for your reel and i will put them in for you. you need a wormgear and pawl as i know because i tried to help him fix it  trust me change both and problem solved.

this is an option unless you have gotten the parts already. I still say you should give it to me and let me drop it off with Reel Express on my way to Hope for fishing :beerchug:

Thats a simple fix..I've done so many I can probably do it in my sleep... ;D
Go with a new worm gear and a ceramic pawl..
Sounds weird doesn't it? Ceramic in a steel gear situation, but, believe me,it will outlast and outcast the stock steel pawl by far...I don't know if Mike has a new batch in yet. Also, I would use Quantum Hot Sauce oils and lubes for your reel, they are very good.
I have 4 Abu 7000's,3 6500's and 2 5500's that get used tons ,all with these ceramic pawls (plus a loads of other upgrades ).
If you had a 6500 there would be a few more options to get some better performance out of the old girl, but you have a 5500.. Oh well, let me know if you need any more info..

yes i know but i dont think he wants to pimp it out as he has been eyeballing my Center Pin. I think he is leaning to getting one for next year :peace: I bought a reel from AbbyFireGuy that had the upgrades done and man can that thing go  its the g/f's reel when she fishes so its barely been used and still brand new LOL sure casts far though almost to smooth sometimes.
