You can launch there, but head down first and it does run shallow. Also there are alot of bars that are fishable, but boat access to get to anything good.

Not really busy compared to the beggining of the week, lots of open space. Jesperson is another good launch with some nice bars.

Was out yesterday, but launched at Island 22. Tried to pick up my wife later at Peg leg but had to abort due to strong currents and shallow water. Chewed up one prop trying. So do not launch at Peg leg, safer to pay the $10 and go from Island 22.

I was out there a week ago and found that there were some people barfishing. It seems like there is some way to go around it. There were people in some spots that you can be sure had to use a boat to get in there but some spots seem like possible to get in there by foot. Not sure how though ;D

Peg isn't accessible as a boat launch or by foot.
There is a small patch of bar accessible by foot but it's at the bottom corner, so if you do hook a spring you'll likely lose it in the flow.

Boats can enter from below, but most are jets due to ridges of shallow bar chewing up props.
If you do want to run the gauntlet it's best done from upstream I'd say.

Saw one guy wade it this week and he was swimming, using his cooler as a floatation device - Yikes!!!

Flow is still really strong at the bottom, better bar fished at the top.
Hope that helps. :peace:

it's very dangerous to be crossing that channel even if you know it.....even the locals won't try goes to tell its changed again we were told it's very deep there , as for the bottom bar i seen it last week and there were guys chucking the bettys like mad talked to one fella and he said nothing for the 4hrs he was there even if you (snagged) a spring it would be extremly hard to land.
While i was there a couple of guys with a 14' boat lauched at the end of the road of peg and had no problems getting out there to the larger sand bar.

I can't wait to see people side by side 2 or more kms long reeling and shouting and catching fish all day long. I'm preparing my week off for that mighty Pegleg. This time I swear I'll catch one. No excuse. :happy:
you gotta be kidding ::)
