Im heading over to the Island and was hoping to get out to the San Juan to do some fishing.... any ideas what the conditions are like up that way... fished the Gordon years back for steelhead but never fished the San Juan... any info would be great!

Ive heard they get one of the largest strains of coho on the Island in there. Be sure to look at the regs for closures. good luck ;D

If thats true then they sure are good at hide and seek! Did not see any the other day. Maybe the hatchery took them all. No Chum either. Just a few black chinooks.

Thanks for the info... just talked to my buddy who fished nit nat in the morning ....couple of coho then his secret spot around Port renfrew and into some steelies... must be a late summer run??? The wife has forced me into cowichan...closer to her friends....looks like egg pattterns for trout on the fly......should be fun though... Ill post a report after

You may be better off at the Cowichan anyways. I fished the San Juan on Sunday, raced over having heard some promising reports, but didn't land anything. The mouth of the river (at the bridge) was quiet, as were the pools around the forestry campsite on the San Juan. Headed up the Harris from the confluence. What looked like chum were holding in a couple of the lower pools, but I wasn't able to entice them with fly or gear. Hope your luck is better than mine.
