I am not familiar with all the roads on the vedder so please excuse my ignorance.

But, I was on the main road from Chiliwack towards the hatchery and just after the cabins I pulled over ON THE SHOLDER OF THE HWY and got out of my truck to put on my hipwadders (I wore them because no way was I going to get bitten again by the NO-SEE-UMs, besides they are breathables.... anyway this is not important) and just as I was pulling up the straps a guy in a truck came storming up behind me and jumped out of his truck saying ARE YOU GOING FISHING, I said YES he said YOU WERE ON PRIVATE PROPERTY , I replied NO I AM ON A PUBLIC HWY" he went off on a tangent, which I didn't even listen to. I got in my truck and left. When I drove by the area later I noticed a field with a barbwire fence on the south side of the Hwy , and did not see a sign anywhere ......... HAS ANYONE ENCOUNTERED THIS IDIOT .... WHO IS HE ???

Cape R

PS (He had a young kid with him about 25 yrs old and flashed a card at me which resembled a government employee business card , red mapleleaf in the corner of the card).

True but HE SHOULD get the facts before HE rags out on an Innocent bystander who hasn't even got a clue there is water out there. geeees , I was just putting my gear on. If he is so upset with people on his land, wouldn't you think he would SIT ON YOUR LAND AND CATCH THEM ON HIS LAND ......... INSTEAD OF ACCUSING GUYS SITTING INOCENTLY ON THE SHOLDER OF THE HWY AND RUIN A GUYS DAY.

HE MAY OWN THE LAND BUT NOT THE HWY !

I agree Shane. the guy put up a sort of fence with a bunch of barbed wire on it where we all used to cross through. CR dont mind that guy your allowed to park there as long as you dont block his gate entrance. He does not own the side of the road. he is just choked because people keep crossing his land to go fishing.

does this sound like the spot where you had pulled over??

interesting. Do you guys know that in Italy you are allowed to cross any private land (in a respectful way of course) while hunting pr fishing? you can actually hunt and fish in private properties if they are hunting or fishing areas. But I guess is not the way how it works in Canada ???

Hey Hook,

it sounds like the spot you mentioned.

I have only been on the river about 5 times and didn't even know there was water beyond that fence and even if I did I wouldn't have gone over the fence because that's the way I am. Furthermore why doesn't he post NO TRESPASSING SIGNS ????

I guess I am a bit ripped because of the guys attitude but I am sure one day someone will ACT ACCORDINGLY

END OF STORY :wallbash: :pissed:

Sorry to hear about the run in with another Happy CV resident. Though you may have been a innocent target I do understand his anger.
There are two types of people who use the river, ones that respect the river, peoples property, and fellow sportsman using the land. The other are the ones that cause all the headaches destroy anything and everything up there, and really dont care about the effects thier actions may have on the environment up there or the people that share its uses. Maybe he was just frustrated in the fact cattle grazing there have been shot in the past, or gates left open by people passing through, or old out buildings on the property trashed or just garbage being left in the field. As far as no trespassing signs there used to be signs on the fence line maybe the fine folks that like to trash every thing else up there needed them for something. I know that there is alot of anomosity up there with people that use the river and residents that live up there. I was at a presentation that showed the amount of crap that these weekend warriors left behind and destroyed after the May long week end. We often post about the amout of garbage left on the banks, this is nothing compared to what we were shown. The attitudes of some of the users of the river and area, that's a whole other topic. Show a little bit of respect to people up there, it 'll go a long way. Remember your playing in someone elses back yard. I don't condone this fellows actions, but how does he give benefit of the doubt. Even though most of us are responsible users of the river, until the crap is cleared out I don't think it is going to get any better. Kind of like guilty until proven innocent I guess. :-\

I know its tough when you are new to a river and trying to find a place to fish instead of just parking with everyone else and joining the gong show. I have foudn myself lost on private property a couple of times, luckily I haven't met the angry dude yet.

If this is a representation of the CV residents AND his actions are justifiable then I guess its time for me to find another place where I don't have to worry about pulling over for a second on a highway (street) only to justify to some idiot what I doing there , who knows one day it might get so bad with this caractor that he comes out with a gun, IS IT STILL JUSTAFIABLE AFTER THAT OR DOES HE HAVE TO HURT SOMEONE FIRST , THE LAST TIME I CHECKED THATS VIGILANTEE JUSTICE AND THAT IS WRONG VERY VERY WRONG ............................. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR FISHING AND YOUR BUDDY WITH THE FENCE.

it would be interesting to have his side of the story though. weird and dangerous people are everywhere, but I learned first hand that canadians are by nature good and friendly people. so, be careful and respectful and no one will heart you at the river.

Easy there CR. I in no way would ever condone this guy's actions, and had a run in with him myself back a few years ago, at that point he was a little more civil. Those points I pointed out were why he told me to stay off the property, and I respected his feelings towards it. I don't now if it was the same fellow(s) may be they were just some others playing hero that day. None the less your right one should find out what your purpose is there before flyin off the handle.
Cheers

well to be honest this guy has had a few not so pleasant encounters with guys out there. Wookie from the site got chased out of there during steely season (fishing a weekday) but the guy wasnt acting angry or anything he just asked him to leave his property. As he told me they started talking a little about why he is always so mad at people on the river (he was on the riverbank when the guy came) and the guy told him he has had enough because someone had just stabbed his dog a couple days earlier :naughty: Now im not sure if that was true or not as its second hand knowledge but if that was any of us we would be pissed and not want anyone there we didnt know.

The only thing that erks me with this guy is the fact he thinks he owns the river in that area because his land "used" to be where the water is now. well guess what the river changes, so that means your property also changes.

CR you can park at the little clearing before you go up the slight hill and walk the river bank up and around the corner to fish in that area. just walk as far up as you want and fish your way back to your vehicle. This can kill a good few hours easily as there is some nice water in there and now that people have lost the easy access it may not get as busy.

Actually the river "bank" is private property unless it lies below the high water mark. And it really doesn't matter if it is a week day or a weekend, the guy's private property is private. Just respect it and move on.

I guess I didn't explain myself clear enough I had no intention of fishing any where near or around his property , I am so inexperienced with the whole area that I didn't even know that there was water there. I have only been on that road 5 times in my life.

I had just bought a pair of new boots from Fred's and wanted to put them on , so I pulled over to the side of the road, unfortunately by his fence.

I am upset because of the attitude the guy had and his aggressive nature ........................ TO DAMN BAD PEOPLE ARE DISRESPECTFUL, BUT HE SOULDN'T ASSUME , ACCUSE AND CONDEM ME FOR THAT ..... he should have just been more polite and take classes on how to deal with people.

BUT LIKE I ALWAYS SAY "YOU GET TREATED HOW YOU TREAT OTHERS ............." SO I WILL LEAVE IT AT THAT AND FIND ANOTHER AREA TO FISH LIKE VANCOUVER ISLAND
