I'm looking for a stress free setting to take the family Salmon fishing. Like everyone else I have filled up the freezer with sockeye and would like take the kids and lady out for some fun also. Setting the rod in the pull holder and pulling or back trolling kwik fish is always fun for me and its easy for the little ones to do. We have been at the mouth of the Harrison and noticed the water stays pretty clean. I've heard there is a good run of chums and coho that shoot up the river in October. Has anyone also fished the same way?

would you recommend adding a small chunk of herring or anchovy to the belly of the kwikfish?
.................definately not allowed in freshwater in B.C. but you could add a velcro piece and some scent

Wow I'm glad the no fin fish bait was brought up. Cause in the states bait means roe, herring ,anchovies what ever smells and will catch fish. I'm going fishing on the Harrison Friday was going to use a herring wrap definitely not now. Thanks for the info everyone! So if you bring more than 1 kg of roe I suppose every person out there has a receipt from a store on them right!

this brings up lots of questions!8) here's an easy one: when backtrolling do you weave back and forth across the river or pick a line and slowly ease down?

Well you use your kicker to maneuver your position. Find a spot that looks fishy like a spot you would cast a spoon in or float some eggs through. Go up stream a ways to give your self time to basically back your self into a hole. Using the right amount of kicker throttle for the amount of current speed you have. Its a fine combination throttle, finesse, and positioning your boat. Just watch your rod tip it will tell you how much speed you need. If the rod tip is not shaking vigorously its not working right. Ounce of watch somebody it will all make sense. Far as size they range from 3.5 to 5 inches some use bigger or smaller. The chum seem to like the purple and pink. Coho and spring more like green chartreuse and chrome. Some have a slit underneath with felt where you can inject sent.

Back trolling kwiks and other plugs can be fairly effective in the Harrison, although I find the plugs dig hard into the very lumpy bottom pick up slime and foul, causing issues with action.
I find backtrolling spinners using jet divers with droppers to get them down far more effective, you can have your diver pounding bottom while your spinner thumps in the zone. Also trolling the same type of spinners in the slower parts of the Harrison and Fraser can work well. Tip those spinners with prawn and hold on.

Been hammering Chinook on the Fraser and Harrison this season on spinners, heres just a little porn to get you interested.

thanks for the clarification! Are we allowed to put herring/anchovy to the belly of a kwikfish in the tidal portion of the Fraser (not the freshwater portion)?

thanks for the quick reply...I've been looking through the regs and I can't find anywhere where it specifically says that using a herring/anchovy is not allowed...could you please refer me to where exactly it says that this is not allowed? thanks in advance (sorry to hijack this thread)

Good advice guys, thanks! I might have to dig the boat out all the drift fishing gear and give that Harrison a try this weekend.
