Never put new line and/or backing on a fly reel before. Always had it done in-store. Is there any techniques that need to be followed? Does it have to be done with a machine so that it is super tight? Or can it just be put on hand spooled? What about knots? To connect it to the reel? Backing?

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Just another note to add. The backing should never be spooled super tight. It should fit snug and not loose, but winding it too tightly can cause the spool to warp

For most of my reels I use a Bimmini twist in the backing, and then loop the back end of the flyline. This makes it easy for me to change fly lines as I seem to have alot of different lines, but not many reels
