Last year was the first year in a long time that I was unable to fish the Qualicum area. Its funny though, I have always done better near the little Q rather than the big.
Also I heard on a different forum that Costa Lota is closed and the boat lauch will not be able to be used this year.
I hiked along the Little Qualicum Estuary yesterday at flood tide and saw two very large springs roll about 50 feet from the main mouth of the river. I freaked and wanted to run back to where I was staying to grab my rod.
You used to be able to launch at Bowswer but I thinks that launch is closed (due to a condo development) so the next closest place to launch after French Creek is probably Deep Bay. Either way it's still a fair ride to either the Big Q or Little Q salt.
I had a terrible experience fishing the west coast last week and would kill to have a chance to redeem myself fishing the salt on the east coast. If anyone has an extra space available on their boat I'll be more than happy to pick up gas and beverages.
Traditionally from the 15th onwards of august is when it really happens out front there. More so in the third week and the longer the rain drought, the longer they hold out front. You can already hit some of those Q River springs off Tribune bay and Floa Islet.
i just got back from the island but my motor wasnt workin!I got out once and fished the big Q and i thought it was a little early but i got one 20 pounds!its just starting up though!
