Just thought I'd post this info, for those who catch and retain any tagged sockeye from the Fraser River.

12000 tags went out for five consecutive days prior to a commercial seine fishery in Johnstone Straits starting on Aug 9th. Five colors are being used, a different color for each day of tagging. These colors include: white, yellow, flor. pink, green, and flor. yellow. Tags were inserted near the dorsal fin, some were double tagged incase of tag loss. Anyone who catches one with a spaghetti tag is asked to send it to the address located on the tag. Or send it to: Cindy Rasmussen, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, 3225 Stephenson Point Rd., Naniamo B.C., v9t 1k3.

Please include following info with the sent tags.

Method and gear used when fish was caught. The date and location fish was caught. If possible please include the DFO sub area.. Each tag complete with name will be entered once in a lotto worth $4,500 cash. This lotto ends October 31st./06 $2000 for 1st, $1,000 for second $500 for 3rd, and $250 for hon. mentions.

The second lotto is for radio and acoustic transmitters. There were 700 fish fitted with radio transmitters, and 450 fitted with acoustic transmitters. The study of these fish will be evident as the adipose will be punched and a blue spaghetti tag inserted in the dorsal...So if you catch a fish with a blue tag, then it should have a radio or acoustic tag. Radio tagged fish will also have a small wire antenna protruding from the mouth. The transmitter itself will be located in the abdominal cavity of the fish. These transmitters record data such as water temp and exact tracking of the migrating fish. Please call this number asap if you have caught and retained one of these fish. 1-866 -221 -3444 A complete data history will be sent to the mailer for each transmitter returned. For those who take the time to send these in will also be entered into a cash lotto...

Finder

Spaghetti Tags.

All of the packers and processors are keeping a watchful eye out for those. I found two this past week and gave them and the same info you posted to the workers whom have been most co-operative. They love the idea of $4500 bucks!

Do you work for DFO? Tight lines fish finder!
