Is there any reasonable opportunity and places for fly fishing salmon or trout from ocean access in the broughton's or east of port hardy on the mailand side? How is the salmon fishing in the ocean in that area late July----Any other good areas for salmon on the fly?
I am not sure just how far you are willing to go, but here in Rupert salmon fishing is hot! Coho are showing up already and there are lots of crazy, chrome pinks. You do very well on the fly up here off small islands that have large collection of bull kelp. I was out last week in the morning low tide and there were lots of coho jumping in the tide line (Bull kelp area). In early august, is when fly-fishing for marine coho peaks. There is nothing like a coho on in the ocean! If you are just downrigging of course there are good springs, coho, pinks and even some sockeye. The halibut are good of course as long as you find yourself the top of a shelf or side of it at about 300ft.
There is good fly fishing access to Cluxewe River and Keogh River during this time (for Pinks and Coho). These rivers are both on the eastern side of Vancouver Island though.
