I know there is a similar topic, but I was wondering what your recommendation on which is the better rod for those of you who have tried them out. They are both nice rods in the same price range, but I want the one with better casting distance (I am planning on getting a 9' 5wt.). Any other tips would be appreciated as well. Thanks.

I have both of those rods.
My Scott is a 9' 4wt and the Sage is a 9'6" 6 wt. Both are nice sticks. If you compare apples to apples the action is fairly similar for both.

You should try casting both of them to see which rod suits your casting style if distance is a concern.

Can't go wrong with either imo.

Good luck.

I haven't tried either of those rods personally, but both Sage and Scott have excellent reputations for building great rods, so I don't think you can really go wrong with either one. The only recommendation that I would make is to get a 4 piece version so that you can travel easier with it, but still have the ability to quickly break it down to two pieces if you want to. :2cents:

for what its worth, I have just ordered the Scott 4wt 9'. I actually had my heart set on the Sage (bit of ego creeping in too), but after tossing the Scott, i couldn't believe how great it felt. I'm sure the fish won't be able to tell the difference .. but the feel of the Scott may make me want to cast it a few more times.
