Got this off Rod's site and thought I'd pass it on.

Join us for a Salmon Rally!

Ho Ho Ho! Santa Salmon will be handing out lumps of coal to Fisheries and Oceans Canada (FOC), formerly Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), for not protecting BC's wild salmon from destructive salmon farms. The Wilderness Committee is demanding that FOC shut down Salmon Farms on the BC coast to protect wild salmon.

Salmon farming hurts our wild salmon & marine life, through sea lice & disease transfers, pollution (sewage, drugs and chemicals), and competition & colonization by escaped Atlantic farmed salmon.

Salmon are carnivores, so farming them is also unsustainable, as they consume 2-8 times their weight in feed made from wild fish and fish oils, which is depleting the earth's protein and wild fish.

Farmed salmon are also unhealthy for us, having up to 10 times more toxins than wild salmon.

So please join the Wilderness Committee for the fun rally on Wednesday, December 13, from 11:30am - 1:30pm, in front of the FOC office at 401 Burrard St, in downtown Vancouver. We will rally FOC to completely shutdown the unsustainable salmon farms, enjoy some street theatre, and marvel at the one and only Santa Salmon.

Salmon Farm Rally
Date and Time: Wednesday, December 13th , 11.30 AM to 1.30 PM Place: Fisheries and Oceans Canada, 401 Burrard St @ Pender, Vancouver

We are also asking people to speak out to protect our wild salmon and to please write to:

Minister, Fisheries and Oceans

Wish I had known earlier, @%#$$$.

Go get em!!!, salmon farming has proven itself many places the world over, to be a horrible eviromental mess and far from a relief on wild stocks. These fish eat more feed than their wild counterparts and they aren't being fed salad.

I'll try to be there because it's important, but it's too bad it wasn't better promoted. It's the first time I hear about it.
Hope it will be a HUGE success. It needs lots of media attention.
