I've got my freshwater fishing license. This is my first year with one so i've got a couple questions. The guy that sold me the license didn't say anything about salmon surcharges. Should I have paid more and gotten a stamp or soemthing if I wanted to fish for salmon? Also, if so, how much would it cost?

If you haven't got a stamp on your license that says "Salmon" you are not able to legally fish for salmon.
Your Basic Freshwater Licence must be validated with a salmon conservation stamp to keep a salmon of any legal size or species (other than kokanee) from non-tidal waters. A stamp is not required if you intend to release all salmon caught. You must record your catch of adult chinook salmon on the back of your basic angling licence

I am sure this is what Marko was getting at but I will post anyways...If you are fishing a non-tidal peice of water targeting salmon you MUST have a salmon tag even if you don't plan on keeping any fish. The same goes for steelhead.

Below the mission bridge is considered tidal, above non tidal.
Are we going through this again, below the mission cpr bridge is tidal and i agree marko that is a problem with the fishery. I don't know how many times i've seen guys keeping fish and stashing them than fisheries comes around and they say we are just strictly catch and release. I definatly think that this rule should be changed to stamp required when fishing for salmon period. :2cents:

Sorry strethy you do not need a tag if you don't plan on keeping any salmon. People are so confused over this rule why?

Yes there are different rules for steelhead. You have to have a tag just to fish for them. And depending on where you fish you may also need a classified waters licence :beerchug:

Correct. With regards to salmon, you don't need a tag if you do not keep any you catch, but with regards to steel, you need a tag just to fish for them, let alone keep a hatchery fish.

However, I am of the opinion that we should all just buy our salmon tags anyways, it takes temptation out of the equation for some people, and allows you to change your mind if you do catch one and wish you could keep it...

Just buy all your tags, that's what I do.
