I am currently involved in a transaction of selling my North River to a gentleman who resides in BC.

Has anyone had any experiences of buying a boat in the states and transporting it up to BC? What is the process? Is it a rather cumbersome process or it it straight forward? I have read that there needs to be a couple different bill of sales written up. One for the boat, and another for the trailer. I currently have a bank loan on the boat so I do not have the title. The only way that the bank will release the title is if the loan is paid off. It seems that the title must be in hand before the boat can be taken across the line.

Is this an easier process than what I am seeing???

it would appear the purchaser needs to show up with enough money to pay you and the bank off. Then he can transport it with title in hand to the border, pay the gst and pst. Then take to trailer to the correct places to have it approved to be insured and towed on road sin BC. The bill of sale should have the trailer price separate from the boat for tax purposes. I purchased an Alumaweld a few years ago in washington and had no problems at all bringing it across the border.

The problem that I am encountering is the fact that Washington State titles on new boats, are electronic titles. Once the loan is paid off, the department of motor vehicles (DMV) will then execute the title printing. So, as it is right now, I pay the loan off, account is closed in 3 days, then the bank mails me notification that account has been paid in full. Then the DMV is notified and will begin the printing. So essentially, I have to wait for the DMV to do their process.

However, I have the Manufacturers Certificate of Origins on the trailer and the boat. Perhaps this along with the bill of sales will satisfy customs.

i don't recall ever showing custoims the title to the boat. They seemed to be only interested in the bill of sale to be able to collect the taxes. Maybe Jim can clear this up since his purchase was only last month and mine was 4 years ago.

cert of origin and trailer cert is all that is needed and a bill of sale from the owner... title can be sent later... if the customer has any questions he can contact ''pacific border crossings'' in abbotford and ask any other questions... he will have to have the trailer inspected and that typically will take a week or 2 for the paper work...

I put 24 hours on it in the last year. Our river fisheries down here are heading on the fast track South and it is not looking like much relief on the horizon anytime soon. If I want to hit the smaller flows I will get a small river sled and/or a drift boat. For the salt look towards a bay style boat with a deeper V so I don't have to wear a kidney belt to fish the salt.

Buyer came today, took boat with all the papers I had rounded up for him. He called after crossing border and told me that they only looked at the bill of sale between us and sent him on his way. He said he wasn't in there for more than a couple of minutes then gone.
