I am lucky enough to be going to Mexico and was wondering if anyone had some info on fishing there. I see that there is lots of guides down there but was hoping to do it alone.
You may be able to find a guide that could take you from one of the fishing charters, most only advertise catching deep sea fish, there are a number of shops in town all right beside one another located by the main dock. I just got back from Barbados and we fished at night when the big fish came out of hiding, good times.
If you walk to the southmost part of the beach there is a rock outcropping that holds a lot of fish. I have snorkled there many times and have seen a lot of Jacks and other game fish. I would suggest at least 12-15lb line and throwing a minnow bait of some sort.
Just a side note. The charters out of "Z" are the cheapest I have found anywhere in Mexico. They average $150-170 for a half day on a Panga which should land you into plenty of Sails, Dorado or even a Marlin.
Have a great vacation.
