now remember that you will see people out there using this EXACT setup to long line fish also. to be short floating its all about the depth you set your float to weight and keeping your leader under 3feet lets say (i will go 3feet in really clear water but normally use around 2' or less)

short floating is when your presentation is off the ground and not on the ground.Short floating doesnt entirly mean you must only have 2 feet between your float and weight in a 10 ft pool, cause that just wont work , check the depth tune your float so its 1-2 feet off the bottom and your short floating

In a deep pool you may want to use a stop knot on your line that you can reel up and will pass the eyes of your rod and not interfere with your reel. When you cast, the float will rise up your line until it hits the stop knot. You can slide the stop knot up and down your main line to adjust float height.
