Quite honestly I think its more ethical for people to just keep their snagged/flossed fish and leave the river. that way less fish are being harassed and meat fishers like myself will leave the bar sooner or perhaps the government can buy the fish from the natives, for a cheaper price (increasing there catch allowances) and then hand them out to license holders that just want there limit (which the regs would state a annual bag limit for every species) I no its sounds stupid but the system we have in place now just isn't working . everytime you go fishing and hook a fish in anyway you are vastly decreasing that fishes chances of succeeding in its mission. its a long way for a lot of these runs very high mortality in those warm waters. it would make it easier to monitor the effects of the sport fishery blah blah blah bs bs bs bs :idea:

Another way to keep it honest is just ban flossing altogether. Then you'll really have to buy your fish from commercial sources (or I'm sure a bunch of people will solicit First Nations fishermen) and wouldn't have to get all worked up about whos snagging what. I am thinking that it's heading in this direction anyhow, and the way that the flossers conduct themselves every year is just more fuel to the fire that will eventually burn them.
Yes, I floss sockeye every year that there's an opening. Will I be sad if and when they ban that sort of fishing? No...flossing constitutes 0.01% of the kind of fishing that I do. There's plenty of other ways to get other fish to bite that will provide lots of fun. As the focus of the salmon fishery (and any other fishery for that matter) leans more and more towards conservation, the regs will just get tighter and tighter. Look at how treble hooks and barbed hooks have already been banned...it's just a matter of time.
