Recreational fishing has comparitively small effect on numbers compared to nets...It may be a very short lived opening if the usual folks with their 12-15 foot leaders who continue to bottom bounce for springs after killing their two socks show up in hordes ...
Take your two and either change up the gear or pack it in ...If bottom bouncers continue as before to fish and catch and release a dozen socks looking fo rsprings, Fisheries WILL SHUT IT DOWN...
Not a rant or reeming anyone out, this is the way they will look at it and they have done it before when overzealous bbers go crazy with their fishing.
Unfortunately sockeye season brings out the worst in people on the river and some of the most moronic lack of water safety one will see .
That being said, take your PFD's and wear them. Carry plenty of fuel and a rope in case you need to get towed or assist someone..
And if you feel the need to jar your face off,,take a tent and sleep it off rather that boat drunk...
Take care everyone and be safe out there..

VERY good points Abby ;D ;D

i know when i go for sockeye i get my 2 and leave, unless im with someone who is trying to get their last one then i help them get it, then we leave. when springs are closed there is no need to keep hammering the water to get it when there is too many sockeye around. and this year NO BIG SPRINGS can be retained so whats the point in hammering the water to get a little one :naughty:

and i agree with the DONT DRINK AND BOAT :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: i think every year sockeye are opened we hear of a couple boats hitting each other :wallbash: very scary stuff.

Abby didnt you and your family almost get killed by a Betty one year? hopefully this time around guys will be alot nicer to boaters out there and not try to take them out with 4oz. weights :naughty: :naughty:

Hey Abby,,, You nailed it on the head. We head out as a group and all fish until we get our 2 each then pack it in. We do not C&R sockeye just to try to get a spring. I have not been on the Fraser this year as I do not BB when sockeye are not open. Hopefully the boating ethics will be not too bad. I will be up in the Gill Rd area trying to get away from some of the crowds.

Cheers, Rob
