As I was reading the last issue of sts there was a intresting story and it got me thinking. The story was the one on how to cook a sucker. He never did really describe a taste, so it got me wondering, what would a sucker taste like, or for that matter pike minnows. Growing up in Yarrow, we were taught suckers were very bony and squaws were just plain garbage, but I dont know of any one who actually ate one. Now using the theory fish take on the taste of the water and feed they are in I could understand that suckers might be a little rank, but what about pike minns. They eat similar things to trout, so do they take on the same flavors?
Just curious if anyone has tried these before

When I was living in Petawawa, ON. one of my friends fathers had smoked some suckers.
They said it tasted alright but, the looks of the fish alone put me off and I never had the guts to taste it

I saw a bunch of people at white rock pier fishing for bullheads(to keep them) they were using prawns as bait. So perhaps you can look for bullhead recipes in the next issue :yummy:

i think he wound up throwing it out because it smelled so bad, probably never even tried it.i have heard of people smoking and or canning pikeminnows but never tried myself.

Yup. Soft and bland, very soft Only once for me but someone might like it.
