Im going to buy my first spey rod but i want to know if i could use a fly reel with a spey rod because i have a bunch of spare fly reels.

if it has enough capacity trout. between tips head ,running line and backing there is a need for a large arbor
with some depth.but if you just want to have fun until you get the new reel, fill yer boots and have fun.
nothing stopping you.

I've found that I've needed reels about two "weight classes" up to hold my spey lines. Some have long heads and/or are as thick as shoe laces hence the need for large capacity.
