Well I made it out to the stamp river today. It was a great day to be on the water as it I had no rain fall on me while I was out there. The river had dropped alot since my last trip over and the clarity was good.I hooked and lost two fish on the Sproat and had two bites on the Stamp.the rest of the day I was watching my float float down river. It was a very tough day out there for me.We covered alot of water and should have had better results but the fish were just not around today. There were alot of other guys out on the water too.More than I've ever seen before.I guess they all have been waiting for the river to drop to get out.At any rate I think it would be safe to say that any fish thatwere there have been pounded pretty hard.

I hope to redeem this day in a few more days and go back to the Stamp.

I found last time I was there after a dramatic water level drop I never did as well either. With the low water a lot of the fish shot the falls and are holding upstream now, the last run of fish was holding down low for quite a while... I had great luck at the Store pool last time, a place I usually don't spend much time at, hint hint.
That's too bad, at least you hooked into a couple on the Sproat, I've seen a few bruisers come out of there.

Anybody ever find they couldnt get into this website ? I had to re register and use a new name, used to be "Island Chrome", kept saying the email I provided wasnt the one associated with my username, bummer.

my guide, the fishmyster on the Stamp, tells me that he'd rather fish the river high, than low. he has been doing it for 20 years, and that's when the fishing is best. it has been that way every time that I've been there, and every time I've landed a boatload of steelhead!

I'll second that. The Stamp on high water is amazing once you learn the high water pockets. My numbers have been double or triple the hookups on high water compared to low water days.

Spent the last week hunting the Stamp. Worked pretty well everything from the Falls down through below the rifle range many times, and spent a day in the jet below. Water has dropped quite nicely into shape (best time to fish this system is actually on a dropping water regime, which we had).
Over the six days, with 3 rods working sun-up to sundwon, we managed but 8 to hand  This was a real shock, as I consider (live here) 8 to be a decent day, certainly not a bloody week! The guides have seen a dramatic drop in numbers the last week and change, and all of the "Top Guns" are scratching their heads! A buddy drifted the upper 3 times same period, 2 summers and 1 wint for all 3 trips...

About 5 years ago, the peak run timing shifted from ~ 3rd week of January well into February, and has stayed reasonably consistent following that. The last 3 years, this past week was IT! Now we're all desperately hoping the fish are simply late, given that all the local salmon runs were late this last fall, it may fit. Certainly hoping that way myself, as I'd hate to think we're witnessing the Stamp go the way of the Gold and so many others!!!

The lack of fish haven't kept the crowds away. Last Friday drew them in hordes, and there were more folks out than I've seen on a weekday in a very long time. Amongst the 25 or so we spoke with, heard of one wild buck landed, and 2 LL releases through the day. OUCH!

Hope it improves soon, getting tired of being dissapointed!

Cheerless!

Nicely done fishaholic. I was just wondering how it's been there lately.
Good to see so many fresh fish coming in considering there hasn't been that much rain lately as compared to late. How was the water level ?
