My dad and I are making a trip to the stamp this year for a couple days to chase steel and I was wondering what is the best month to go? We will be doing a charter for a couple days so we just want to make sure we time it right.

Thank You. :)

Steel' usually arrive late Nov. to early Dec. depending on water conditions/flow etc....The last few years there were a lot of fish in the river in Dec. and the next best month would be mid Feb.............Ortho 8)

Mid Febuary? I wasn't there myself but the people who I know that fished it were into alot of darker fish and not too much in the way of chrome, Maybe a poor year or bad luck? One of them went guided.

I've been in early to mid march and been into lots of chromies at that time. Kelts will start sreally showing themselves after that. But you never know could have been just one of those days. Fishing is so unpredictable.

December & January. Used to do annual trip to PA every Xmas, back in the early 90's. Steelheading in the snow. The fish were so shiny & blue against the snow. Winters in the lower river & summers above the falls....sure miss that place :'( I hear it gets Vedder busy these days. Good luck hookset.

Between Xmas and new years it can be a gong show! It's really too bad.
