You are already on the right track by throwing a post on the internet. Now, use the time and read everything you can on every site on steelhead fishing and search the archives of all the sites and continue to gather info....When you go to the rivers, spend a 1/2 day fishing and a 1/2 day watching others....walk the river a see the type of water people are fishing...There are some spots that just have water and no fish.
If someone catches a fish, get as close as you can to check out the gear, colour, water temp, and time of day and the weather....Keeping a good log is also helpful....Lots of video and books out there......be relentless if you want to be successfull. I can't put over 50 years into print

the best thing you can do to help with the learning curve is to come out to the fishout Jan1st/2008 and join up with some of the members here and get lessons right on the river. check out that thread i think we are meeting at LICKMAN rd. park at 8am

I was sitting at the crossing eating lunch watching this guy across the river fish the exact same drift on every cast. Lengthening the depth every couple of casts to the point he was dredging the river then back to shortfloating. Anyways, he got tired of fishing the wool I guess and swithched to a big neon pink worm.As he was retying a giant steelie probably close to 20 lbs jumps right where he was drifting about 20 feet downstream from him. Clueless to the event he starts casting his worm into the faster water. And totally missed his chance at probably his first steelhead.

Just goes to show how important it is to pay attention to the river and work the water properly.

It's early in the season when you really need to pay attention. So you can slay when the fish are in thick  It's the little things like that, that keep you one up. The guys That went through that run in the half hour I was there, never casted within 15 feet from shore. Through the run then gone. I repeat work the run thoroughly then move on. ;D

Ribolovac,
my point was, if you read some of ribwart’s posts you will find a useful information about how to catch steelhead. wwwribwart……..was a joke as I mention, simply because he posted zillion of tips about steelheading that he could easily make his own web site.
Anyhow, no need for sarcasm……………

Hi ribolovac

Last year was my first season fishing for steelhead. I tried a few time only for a few hours and didn't see any fish. I then went out five days straight and finally on the fifth day, I landed two fish. It was a great feeling. You just have to get out and try it.

Take care,
