:) Heading out next Friday for sturgeon on the Fraser with a bunch of friends. :D ...Now, I'm not new to catching Sturgeon, but I do know that certain baits, weights, lines and how long the braided leader is will be very important for success. Since we have a fairly sizeable bet on (proceeds to BC Children's Hospital), and we are taking 8 guys here and several boats,I have a few questions
What bait to use? Hook size?
Where do we concentrate our efforts?
What kind of set-up for the swivel/line/leader

TEAM "Ortho" will prevail!......Thanks 8)

two baits:

Fresh chum roe. If there are lots of coarse fish around, make a 3" diameter roe bag using old panty hose. Don't forget to break a few eggs (if you are using the bag method) to milk some scent out.

Stinky chum or spring pieces. Cut some pieces of chum or spring into 3" by 3" pieces (can be a bit larger if you want) and throw them into a ziplock. Let the pieces ferment for at least 4 days in a room that's not too cold. Bait must be very smelly otherwise it won't work as well.

From the snap swivel on the main line you can use either a premade Sturgeon Rig (Slider) or a heavy 3 way swivel works fine ........ 18 - 24" of Sturgeon Leader (not fishing line) to an 8/0 or 9/0 very sharp hook. Match the weight so that it keeps the rig on the bottom in one spot ........ 18 oz should do.

Fresh roe (uncurred) dog or other works the best .... and you don't have to vomit from using smelly pieces of dead fish. If you do don't forget the clothes pin for your nose.

One of the ones we caught on Sunday using fresh roe ....
