Hi all,

Need some advice. Friend of mine is moving to Tofino and I'd like to get him a decent setup for fishing from shore. Not sure what is the best way to go. I love my baitcaster setup for river fishing but I don't think that would work as well for him. Should it be a spinning outfit? Something anodized? More than likely targeting salmon.

TIA

Back in he day when i lived in victoria, we casted off the breakwater! And my rig was a 9 ft shimano rod with a shimano reel anodized of coarse! Caught many of salmon on this set up but my main line was only 10lbs Using many jigs we bought from anywhere we could!

Thanks for the info guys! We used to shore fish all the time growing up on the Arrow Lakes. But neither of us have tried for Salmon like that. Now that we're on the ocast. it's a whole new world. I have been doing all the local streams, incl. Vedder but might try the shore thing out for a change. Any recommendations for the Ucluelet area for salmon? Tried searching but not much data out there for that.

Remember to use herring jigs or anchovie looking jigs when surf casting! perkins, darts, buzz bombs work excellent as well Good luck!
