Was fishing at anderson lake and happened to stop by a spawning channel(i think) on gates creek.Full of sockeye,i noticed several fishing with long orange or yellow line on there dorsal fin.I would assume they are tags.If they are tags why are they on the fish?

thanks

I would assume it would be to track where they migrate to when theyre in the ocean or to see how many tagged ones made it back to spawn

They are tagged at the confluence of Seton and Fraser to study the migration of Anderson Lake bound sockeye. It's a study conducted by BCHydro and DFO on the effectiveness of flow dilution, dam operation and fishway passage on delay and survival of upstream migration of salmon.
