Thinking about wilson lake near Nakusp

Going to be on a long range camping trip this summer from Campbell River to Calgary and we came across Wilson lake. Jsut wondering what the fishing is like. We will have a canoe, will that do? I like to fly fish but I will have a pretty good arsenal of hardware too. I understand there is Kokanee there and that should make for a few bigger Bows. Are there any bigger Dollies too? It has been the better part of 15-18 years since i fished these parts. Any hints out there? We haved planned for early July. Any river ideas between there and the Alberta border would be great too. We will be hitting the Elk for a couple of days in Fernie too. But any info would be appreciated. Thanks...

There aren't really any fish of size in the streams unless you are right near the mouth. You are probably better off sticking to the lakes for anything bigger than a finger. Wilson lake is supposed to be good. Let me know how it goes.

If you head south through Cranbrook, the St. Mary's, the Bull, the Wigwam, as well as the Elk all have good fishing (much bigger than finger size!!) Near Nakusp, you should hit Summit Lake. The shallows just off the day use beach are great chironomid waters in June-July for fish up to 2 lbs with an occasional 5-6 lb'er taken.

Just came across this post. Professori, where are you from? I grew up in Nakusp and you are correct about the shallows. My favourite spot is out a bit further towards the last island. Double digit days (in just an afternoon). Sounds like you really get out a lot. I'm envious!

Just ran across this again. Sorry for taking so long lophat. I am in Coquitlam, but I get out to the kootenays every year or 2, and try to hit summit on the way out or back. I plan on being there again this summer and I will try further down the lake this time.
