how and the heck does one tie a good trailer hook for bait holders i've tried and failed on many occations!!! thanx i've had many strikes while on the chuck this year and it was just behind where the hook sits so i think it's time to get a trailer hook!!!!

Use your standard roe loop type knot. Tie the upper hook on first, leaving a long tag. Slide the trailer hook on, spacing the two hooks as needed. Tie the trailer, again, with a roe loop knot. Trim the tag and cut the leader to length. If the regs allow it, I wouldn't bother fishing in the chuck without a trailer hook. They make a HUGE difference.

what is recomended length from hook to hook?

trailing hook

If you can tie your top hook in a sliding set up :wink: that way you can slide yor rear hook to the desired length.
