Hello!

We are looking to go from Point Roberts USA to South Pender Island, BC. Has anyone travelled between Saturna and Mayne Islands to get to Pender? Or is Active Pass a better if not longer route..?? Thanks for the advice...

Hunt......inbetween Mayne and Saturna is Boat Pass which you can get through. It is at the Northwest "end" of Saturna as you can see in this link. I have seen some good sized boats go through there but just keep an eye out as at a low tide it can be pretty tight; and when the tide is running it gets a bit turbulent (just a warning based on your unkown past experience boating).

Boat Passage cuts through between Saturna and the little group of Islands and more specifically Samuel Island, that actually lie between Saturna and Mayne Island.

I would be careful once you cut through Boat Pass and you are in Winter Harbour heading south; then due west around Veruna Bay (and the point that is there); from there you will head through and then off into Navy Channel/Plumper Sound. Be careful as you will see on the following link as you head through Winter Harbour; the point that is on your port side as you are heading "south and west" that at a high tide there are a lot of hidden rocks off that point. I would give it a wide path....you will see Lyall Harbour on your left once you are around the point and South Pender off ahead of you.

Not sure if I explained it all that clearly or if I made sense but feel free to ask me if you have any questions. :peace:

Hunt,

I have a place on Saturna and travel through boat pass frequently in a 24 foot boat. When approaching from the gulf, hug Saturna and angle into boat pass. If you approach boat pass staight on, there is a rock that is dry at low tide, but hidden on the high. I have seen several boats hung up on this rock over the years.

Tman...

Where is your place? I spent the summer on Saturna a few years back helping a friend rebuild their "burned down" cabin out towards East Point.

Had some great times there through the summer we were there. I can just taste a gin and tonic sittin' on the deck at the pub.....speaking of....it's Friday..... :drunk:
