The day started off with a xl timmy's coffee and a quick drive over to my buddies house. We arrived at his house at 4:30 am only to be delayed by having to load the quad and the bike into his boat, plus he is always late. But no matter we were on the water by 7am.

Some pics

After launching we started our journey to the upper pitt river for a day of exploration and fishing. The fog was extremely thick on the river and we had to hold the shoreline within 25ft to be able to tell where we were going. By the time we had made our way through the cahnnel into the lake the fog cleared, but the wind and waves decided to join us.

A few more pics

We made our way to the head of the lake and had the quad packed up at about 8:30, enjoyed a smoke and a beer, and made our way to the hot springs. When we got to the springs, we had breakfast and a few more brews and the springs followed. Man those are some nice natural hot tubs! We didn't start fishing until about 12:30 and fished straight through until 5pm. My buddy managed 4 dollies after using what I suggested while I was awarded with zip. We fished mainly egg paterns and spoons. It was also my first tim eon the river when I mainly used my 6wt as well. A little tough to get used to casting when your an amature. I blame my no fish on the use of my fly rod

And a few more.

We decided to make our way back home as it would be dark very soon. We packed up and enjoyed the nice boat ride back. What a trip, the dirt bike and quad made all the difference though. I will definately be heading up there with the mountain bike in the next couple of weeks!!

I was waiting and looking forward to hearing how you made out. Sounds like you had a blast, a trip to remember.

How far up did you travel and was the boat secure enouph to leave it for any length of time?

Nice pics! Is that the rear end of the ATV sticking up in the air ? I'd hate to see that ride in adverse conditions.

Good report and glade to see something different! ~ ~ ~ 8) Marko

We left the boat at the dock all day. Seems secure enough, we also arranged the docking with a guy that I know

The atv was to say the least a B*&^H to load while the boat was on the trailer. Here is a different pic that shows them in the boat.

We were thrown around pretty good in the south end of the lake till about 3 Km past Goose Island. We thought we were going to losse the quad a couple times, the waves were getting around 3 ft+. The waves calmed down for the last 2/3rds of the boat ride.

Here is a pic of the canyon were the hotsprings reside.

hi travis,

great adventure! here is a question: if you went up with a jet boat, why did you even bother with the atv and dirt bike? was the river tooo low to navigate? i thought that jet boats were pretty normal for that river. the pictures make the river look smaller than i thought it was. it looks sort of vedder-size. is it?

In higher water we would have left the machines at home, but the river is far too low right now to run in a jet. We stopped at the 5 km bridge and both up and downstream were definately impassible. The water needs to come up about 4 ft or so before it is doable in a boat.

Man, I am absolutely dying to fish this river. I've never been up there but I have heard amazing things. Is that canyon picture the actual hot spring? If not does anyone have a shot of the pools.

Consider this an informal invitation to you all to bring me along on your next Upper Pitt excursion. I got the gas and beer!

yeah great trip trav...I too have heard a great many things over the years and have always wanted to head up there...maybe one day....
Koda....I think that pic was of the canyon section of the pitt and the springs are kinda off to the side in and amongst the boulders and granite there beside the river...

It looks like the river was a bit clouded too...I guess there may have already been some salmon up there and it might not have been possible to tell huh? Also heard some gravel extraction is being done on this river....any idea if this is true?

great post steelietrav, and nice pics.
