early

I suggest getting out early, not that I ever do... but a friend at work picked up one (sorry if I already posted about this one), 7:30 am Sat June 10 right at QA, or just South a couple hundred yards, 145 ft down on the rigger, on yellowtail silver back coyote 6 feet behind Gibbs dark green flasher. They ran the same 4 rods all day until 4pm, with anchovies behind flashers on the other 3 rods. A couple other hits, but no other sticks.

If I were you, I'd probably fish that same area...with the SAME rig up...put your time in..and try to cover lots of water.

A couple of years ago I picked up a couple off the north arm..although it was later..in July..they were 20 somethings....both were whites.

Make your deepest rod 120..and your shallowest 50..and you'll get a good cross section of the water. Fish are scarce around Vancouver at this time of year...so if you're confident in your lures and bait rigs...fish all different depths. Individual fish will hone in on your one rod at the right depth too..

Tight lines! I'll be out fishing this weekend...not sure if I'll make it to the Coal Ports as that is FAR for me. On the other hand...some poor lucky dude christened his new boat-- had a HOG on and lost it yesterday after a half hour. Coal Ports. 73 feet on the rigger, Army Truck Hootchie.

Personally, Coal Ports sound like it to me.

How long a leader?

how long a leader does one use with hootchies?
With a full size (11 inch) flasher, the usual length for springs is 36 to 42 inches. Speed is VERY important on your hootchies...so make sure you're using HIGH TEST leader...40 lb test.

Troll relatively fast...2 MPH at a minimum.

Some of the commercial dudes motor along at 3 MPH with longish leaders to slow down the action and cover lots of area.

Basically..they hone in on your flasher first..then they hone in on your hootchie... pretty cool stuff.

Chovie's are good too though..but you have to check your lines more often and watch your speed closely...

Tight lines.
