Over the last few weeks the local Vancouver Harbour winter chinook salmon fishery has picked up! There has been good numbers of chinook salmon in the 4 to 15 pound range in the regular winter haunts. We have been fishing the freighters, Jericho, the QB marker, and the West Vancouver shoreline. We have had more success further out in Vancouver Harbour recently as there is a couple really persistent seals patrolling the West Vancouver shoreline. They have been stealing a lot of the fish that are being hooked up. As always, look for bait and fish in the bottom part of the water column for the best success. Coyote spoons, gypsy spoons and hootchies have all been working. Crabbing has also been getting better now that the commercial season is closed.

As we progress into January and February we should see the size of the winter chinook increase. Last year during the last couple weeks of January and through February there was quite a few winter fish in the the 12-19 pound range. The picture below is a few beauty winter chinooks caught during the last part of January last year! Give us a call if you want to head out and target some winter chinook and dungeness crab!
