Hi everyone hope you can help me on this. I've been fishing around the pender harbour area for the last few years or so usually doing some bottom fishing. I go with a group of 6-10 people so we just rent a place for a few days or stay at one of the cheaper resorts. We would rent a few boats and go around ourselves as we are familiar with the area. However, this year we'd like to try somewhere new, perhaps on vancouver island within driving distance of vancouver. Basically i'd like to get a charter/guide for a day to show us the area so that we could rent some boats and go out ourselves on other days. Salmon/halibut is a bonus but we're usually happy doing our bottom fishing. I'm thinking maybe the bamfield/ucluelet area or if anyone could recommend anywhere i can do this it would be great. Please keep in mind cost is a factor, we're poor students just looking for a nice little vacation. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Yeah i checked this out earlier but i think we'd like it more if we'd be able to go out ourselves. We like the casual approach of just relaxing and having fun. I'll put this as my backup plan! Anyone else got any recommendations?

Bobu.....

Depending on how experienced and confident you feel out on the water, the WCVI can be quite treacherous water for the inexperienced AND experienced boater.

If you are looking to mostly bottom fish you should have a look at the regs to find out areas where there are closures/conservation areas etc.

Well it doesn't necessarily have to be that area, just any area i could do that stuff would be nice. Just kinda sick of the sunshine coast area now, its too loaded with luxury resorts now. I miss the old lowe's resort.

Check out Deep Bay, Courtenay/Comox area. There is good salmon fishing at times on the south end of Denman and Hornby and some bottom fish around as well. Nice place and fairly reasonable. Lots of good places along the east coast of VI. You need to be pretty experienced for the west coast and there is not to many places that rent boats there.

The problem with that area is the limits on fishing. I don't even think lingcod is open yet, would like to go sometime may-juneish on this trip. I've been checking around and the sooke area seems to be a decent area. Anybody have any information there? And also thank you for all the help so far, its much appreciated.

I am wondering if Pedder Bay Marina in Victoria rents boats. Very few places will rent boats because of liability issues and the requirement that clients have to have a valid Power Boat Operators licence for insurance purposes.

Race Rocks area is rockfish conservation area. Can anyone recommend any guides there? Last time i went on a charter we caught nothing. I was wondering if there are any good guides out there that are experienced that do prawning/crabbing as well. Although i'm not too sure if there's even prawning around the sooke area. Oh yeah does anyone know areas around sooke we can go oystering or clamming as well? We love our seafood =).
