Spring is just around the corner! It has been a pretty mild last couple months in the Vancouver area making for some very pleasant winter fishing conditions. We have had lots of days with virtually no wind and ideal fishing conditions. Things are a little blustery and wet this week, but things are looking warm and sunny next week.

We have been on the water quite a bit recently chasing winter chinook in Vancouver Harbour, Howe Sound and the Gulf Islands. We have had our best results over the last month over on the Gulf Islands. We have had the best action from Gabriola Island down to Galiano Island . The legal fish have averaged from 8 to 12 pounds, with some bigger ones up to 18 pounds. Locally, the most consistent winter chinook fishing has been in the inner reaches of Vancouver Harbour. Howe Sound has been disappointing so far this year, with only the odd fish coming out of the area.

Standard winter chinook salmon gear is taking the fish as per usual. The Gibbs Gypsy Spoons, Silver Horde Kingfishers and Silver Horde Coho Killers have been really good to us this winter.

Crabbing has been amazing in Vancouver Harbour over the last couple weeks, with easy limits reached on most trips. Prawning has been good in Howe Sound. Crab traps are dropped on all of our charters and prawning is available on our longer trips.
We have some of our most exciting fishing coming up in April and May. These two months are arguably the best months for numbers of chinook salmon in the Vancouver area. Beginning in early April we typically see good numbers of 10- 25 pound chinook gather in Vancouver Harbour and the south end of Bowen Island. The fish gather once the plankton bloom starts…(usually in early April) We target areas like the Bell Buoy, the QA, the Slash, and the Hump in April and May.

In early May the Gulf Islands really pick up as well for chinook salmon. This fishery usually starts just after the start of the Vancouver fishery in the spring. Unlike the Vancouver chinook fishery that slows in late May, the Gulf Island’s peak for chinook salmon in May and June. May and June are great times to do full day charters to the Island’s for salmon and ling cod!

There is a couple more weeks to take advantage our "Winter Chinook and Crabbing Special" $419.00 plus tax for a 5 hour charter for up to 4 people. The weather looks great next week!! Check out this link for more info.
