Vedder aug 4th Rather A Rather intresting morning

I headed to the vedder this morning after my buddy bailed on me last night, since i was going alone i was able to get up and leave a bit earlier than usual, as he doesn't like to leave very early. I hope your reading this LOL !!! ;)

As I was driving up past the Tamahi River rafting a deer bolts out in front of me and i must have missed it by a few inch's, So now i was instantly awake after just about smoking a deer. I continue to drive up by the prison camp and in the distance i notice this black thing walking along the road ... It was a Big Black bear with 2 cubs.. pretty cool to see.

So i Arrive at my spot walk in and get setup and i see another bear on the other side of the river... Never seen this many bears in one day on the vedder.

I rigged up some Roe and kept an eye on this bear to make sure it wasn't going to cross the river in front of me (It didn't) first cast SPRING ON !!! landed it and released it.. about 3 hours goes by I landed 7 Springs and 1 sockeye all released the springs were all dirty but thats expected for this time of year was a fun morning had the run to myself pretty much the entire first light portion of the morning the a few guys slowly trickle into the spot and all hell breaks loose...

This guy asks me "Any Luck" I said "Yes" he asked me "How many" I said "So far 5 springs 1 sockeye" so he says "Bulls**t" I say back to him "Excuse me" he says "I fished here yesterday and not one fish" i said back "well today is a new day and yesterday i got 2 out of here" he walks away.

As I watch this guy rig up his leader was no word of lie longer than his rod and his rod was a normal 10'6 so i thought to myself you gotta be F---en kidding me... Not only does he have a leader that he cant even cast he is using a Hootchie with 2 Hooks ::) I have seen it all now, So I walk up to him and notified this guy that what he was using is against the regs he says to me "F-OFF I pay taxes and I paid for my license i will use what ever the F--K I want" I told him that i was going to report him to DFO that using 2 hooks is illegal he says "go ahead there is no cell service here" I said no worries that i will be calling on my way home of the location and your description. So after that I hook 2 more Springs in front of this clown he instantly says "Cant believe you hooked those fish with such a short leader" I Kept my mouth shut by this time i was sick of this guy. One of the springs took me a little bit to get in as it was a bit bigger then the ones i have been getting recently so this guy pipes in while I'm fighting this fish and says "why would you use that reel (Center Pin) its a bit unpractical for these big fish" I said back to this guy "To keep his mouth shut and mind his own business" So shortly after i get the fish in 2 other LIMITHOLE specials show up, and this first guy starts chirping at them warning them about me that I'm being an a********e ::) Since i was out numbered 3 flossers against me by myself fishing properly in a nice run full of fish willing to bite all morning i decided to cut my day short as i had no desire to fish anymore after all this.

I made my call to DFO on my way home and instead of them saying IF WE HAVE TIME like they did yesterday they said someone is allready heading to the vedder and they will get ahold of them to check that spot out first !!

Good Morning for the first part 7 Springs 6 on roe 1 on a jig tipped with a prawn piece and one sockeye on roe

Next weekend I think im gonna do some Bar fishing the lower fraser - need a break from the vedder allready

I hope the hatchery gets there fish soon I want limit hole to open !!!!

great report FF less the gong hole regulars ruining the morning and you would think after they seen you landing fish they'd change their set up .

glad you had a great day out there even though some douche tried to ruin your day. A hoochie?? i cant even believe that someone would try one in a river LOL

Trust me i had a good laugh at first LOL , thankfully he didnt hook any fish while i was there !!!! but he continued to use it when i left

Just for your information, fellas, the standard "go to" rig on the Kitimat for big springs is a small, metallic blue micro hootchie with every second strand removed over a #1 or #1-0 barbless gammy, add 2 beads on the top, then a #10-12 metallic blue with orange top spin n glo with a couple more beads . You just plunk this out onto a gravel bottom bar fish style with 4-6 oz. of weight...and SECURELY fasten your rod. I once caught three BIG (over 30 lb. ) springs with this set up....It is small/flashy and deadly when their are freshies entering the river.....Ortho 8)

Ortho i know your talking about the use of a hootchie in rivers but, Im talking about the Vedder here, and this hootchie was white and had 2 hooks !!!

I've picked up discarded anchovie pkgs. and cut plug herring pkgs. at Allison Pool before, doesnt come as a surprise

LOL :happy: what a clown with hootchie. You should suggest him to use dynamite if he pays taxes, why not ...

we should suggest DFO to put cell retranslator somewhere in the hatchery, so people can call from those areas and there is cell coverage.

Hey Fishfreak,What a good morning you had this morning,Too bad he wasnt there yesterday ;),But at least you had a good time before that clown show up.I guess those guys from limit hole are now invaded your secret spot now :wallbash:

It's people like that is why there needs to be a constant DFO or two assigned to the river.
What an A....le!!!
You try to help the guy out both for fishing and lawabiding methods and he gives you attitude plus!
He deserves to be taken away and all of his gear and car and what everelse he has there confiscated.

Glad you got into some fish though
I was fishing that spot (I think) the other day
got there a bit too late as a lot of fish had been caught on roe before i got there and a few guys were pounding the water
When i told one of the guys that joined me later on there he could not under stand why i had let a spring go :wallbash:

It was more of the 2 hooks on the hootchie then anything else, how about intruders !!! some of those are bigger then hootchies.

The pic that I posted is a jig. The guy FF is talking about was using a hootchie. What I was saying is that I dont see a hootchie as being an unrealistic bait on the Vedder. The two hook set up is lame but the hootchie itself seems like it could work quite well at times. What I was saying when I posted that pic is that there isnt much of a difference between the jig that I was using to catch a chinook with a bunch of rubber legs sticking out and wiggling in the current and a hootchie with a bunch of rubber legs wiggling around in the current.

In any event, I'm sorry to hear of your experience on the water Freak. There's no excuse for guys breaking the law - even if they do pay taxes (what kind of a lame excuse is that anyway). It's different when they just don't know and are willing to learn. However, what you described appears to be blatant disregard for the regs and angler ethics. Good on ya for reporting these guys to DFO. You did your part...now we can only hope DFO did theirs...
