Well its that time of year again. The snow has fallen, the air is cold and most of us have dreams of ironheads dancing in our heads. Just wondering who is going to be out this year for the derby! I for one will be doing a little pre-derby fishing for a few days to scout the river. My hopes is this year I will get to weigh one in!

My boxing day buddy will be out of town, but I'm still thinking about plugging through. Last 4 years he's always got fish boxing day, everyone of them wild ;D Last year was over 14lbs

Iv fished the vedder on boxing day the last 2 years but never entered. I think this year I will register having a bit more confidence. Also the other day I was out fishing for some early steel with my buddy, and we started talking steelhead again.... he asked me how many steelhead I think have entered the system already, I had no clue but I guessed 100. What would you guys think the number would be around?

I will be entering the derby this year, and I will be fishing several days in advance this year, which is different from regular years where boxing day is steelhead day 1 on the Vedder.

Can anyone enlighten me as to where the registering stations will be this year. Last year they had one at the fish and game club of course, but I hear there are other posts at Tamahi and down lower.

I will be there. This is the fourth year I'm entering. The only fish I have ever landed on boxing day were 2 boot coho. I have had steely's on to though. I believe it's $25 to enter.

Boxing day is normally my 1st day out for steel but i have never entered the derby even though I have hit a fish every boxing day so far :thumbup: always Wild ones though or they get away :happy: this year i dont think I will be out because im doing some savings shopping :thumbup: but I could be out a little later in the day.

I'll be out there this year swinging away..first year on the spey though :happy: Usually the reg stations are at lickman, the club and at tamihi. I'll be out to scout for the next two sundays stopping at the point if anyone wants to meet up and share some intel. Has anyone seen some square tail landed yet? All I have herd of are ghosts at best so.... but good luck to all and I hope to see lots of fish weighed in! Knock on wood! :cheers:
