Well this is a day late, but I couldn't get to a computer yesterday. Headed out early with a couple of friends to give the river one last look before derby day. The upper river had real nice color to it and was pretty much where I like the water to be color wise for Steelies. :D Worked a whole lot of water yesterday, but by around 10 am the river was getting worse fairly quickly. I wanted to hit a couple spots by the mid/lower river as I haven't had a chance to fish some real nice water I had looked at earlier, but there was maybe 6 in of vis by the time we got down to the Wilson rd area. :( So we headed back up and hit a couple other spots we have had some success at this year. Today was not our day I guess, all we got were a few solid hits and some torn roesacks. Personally, I think they were trout that were hitting, the hits were just to fast to react to. Or, I am just slow on the draw this year so far!!! ;D But, all in all it was a great day, in which we ran accross about 6-7 other friends and shot the shit for a while. :) :)
Good luck to everyone on Derby Day, I still haven't gotten my ticket yet. I will probably get it in the morning. But I have a few misgiving's about the derby situation. We saw about 4-5 vehicles in every spot that we crossed in the last 1/3 of the river. That was the only fishable water on the river. Now I am no rocket scientist, but....... on derby day there is going to be 5 times as many people out as there was yesterday. Then when you add into the equation that there is only a third of the river at best that will be fishable, seeing what I saw yesterday. Well, I think you guys can see where I am going with this. If you want a spot to yourself, or one that isn't that busy tomorrow on derby day, good luck. We saw 6-8 guys at every spot we went into from about 9 am on. Anyhow, no matter how busy it is tomorrow, I hope that everyone is respectful of each other. Have a great day out there guys and be safe. :)

Re: Vedder Dc 23/06

I bet the winner comes from the mid to lower river, despite the reduced visibilty...but definitely agree the upper end will likely be pretty crowded tomorrow...Does anyone know how many people have entered the derby so far?
Good luck to everyone on derby day...

I was out yesterday too. Amazing the number of fisherfolks you meet at the Timmie's on Whatcom, eh Big Steel? ;D Anyways, fished the lower, and then the upper. Float went down at one point a bit slowly so I lifted my rod tip thinking I had touched bottom. Then a fish came thrashing to the surface (yes, small steelie!), spat the hook, flipped me "the tail" and swam away. Tried to see if I could get him to bite again but no dice. However I did hit a small trout as well. It was starting to pour rain as I left. Should be interesting tomorrow morning.

Yes it is amazing isn't it!! ;D Good job on getting into a steely Merc. I have been getting into the STeely mood the last couple of trips, hitting some nice water, but haven't had any luck so far. Maybe tomorrow will be different. ;D Probably see you out there, as I saw your vehicle at variuos spots. Good luck to you and Rick. But more to you!!! ;D ;D

Good luck to you and all the participants in tomorrow's derby! And Ricky might be fishing the same areas that I am, but that doesn't mean he will get into a fish! ;)
