Hi
Went to the vedder today, got there around 6:45am fished the mid river, roads were slushy in the morrning but it's all clear now.Temperature was arond 0 maybe 1 degrese celcius, water was very low and clear, lower then it was on this past sunday, there is around 5 to 6 inches of snow along the river as you go farther up there is more.I usualy start and end the day at my favorite spot,so that's what i did today to.Got to the spot around 7:00 o'clock, set up my rod and started working the water, got this little 7to 10 cast rule for every good looking piece of water,so I went through the run in about 20min.As I was at the tail of the run, wanted to move on down the river, somthing told me to back give it a nother shot, so I did.Switched around to a pink worm one cast nothing, second cast BUM,FISH on.Battle wasen't what I expected but not bad either, one jump a litlle bit of rolling around one hard run and there was my first hatchery stealhead.Buck around 11to 13 pounds, landed the fish unhooked it and safely released it.Nothing better then that adrenalin rush in the early hours on the flow.I was by myself no picks were taken but ok.Rest of the day was pritty quiet, tryed to cover lots of water today what I did but didn't hook anything else, saw one guy lose one fish almost on the shore at the end of the day.Today was my most QUEIT, SILENT day I spent at the VEDDER river ever, saw only a few guys, everybody fishing theire own piece of water,no one casting over noone and similar scenary that usualy happens there, just a perfect day on the river. So far my first steelhead season is more then good or it is just a good year with a lot of fish.Hooked 7 landed 6,5 of them wild 1 hatchery, and one lost.Is it a good year for everyone else or I'm just lucky or maybe doing the right thing, what do you guys say.Good luck!

It sounds like you're both lucky and obviously doing the right things!! For being your first year out Steelheading, way to go! This is my first year too, and although I've been out 5 long tiresome, cold days, I've yet to have a sniff of a Steelie. But then I truly do not have a clue what I'm doing. I usually try at least 3 or 4 different presentations every time out, walk up and down the river for miles, yet nothing. Thankfully I just love being out there and appreciate that you must put the time in to finally get one. Good to hear that guys like yourself arte getting fish and seeing the many pictures posted on here sure keeps the dream alive!
