After hearing all the reports of how great this river has been lately and having my buddy see it first hand yesterday we decided tp get up and hit the honey hole at first light today. As we were driving down the freeway I got some tell tale signs of alot of rain had fallen the night before.I mean all of the lakes I saw on the freeway and in the fields, and sure enough we get to lickmen to find the river has come up alot and is blown.
So before it gets too light we decide to go to the upper river and have a looksy. We figure that we still had time to get a good spot and any of the upper honey holes and to our surprise we were the only ones there at one of the most poular holes in the upper river. So we immdiately started to work the river and it was half an hour os so before other people started showing up.So for the first hour and a half nithing to show for our efforts and we pounded this run. With only one spot in the top section of the run that hadn't been checked I threw on this gooey bob into this riffle and before you knew it,WHAAAM! FISH ON!
.This fish hit so hard that by the time I went to set the hook I was feeling some serious head shaking going on.It hit so hard it set the hook by itself.(I love it when they do that!)after a brief fight with this fish and some prayers that I don't lose it,(Rapalla fish prayer!), I managed to land a nice 8 lb wild buck.A great way to start the day.
The river had maybe 12-18 inches of vis in the morning and by midday it had improved considerably and by the end of the day was coming into shape nicely.I would say by Wednesday it should be good again throughout the whole river if mother nature allows it.
This was my first trip to the Vedder this season and it feels good to get the first one out of the way and hopefully I can post a pic later but I'm too tired right now and my PC is acting weird and have to figure it out first.
Tight lines boys!
